My Story

Hello, and thank you for being here. I’m Cerrie, a person-centred counsellor who believes deeply in the power of empathy, honesty, and acceptance to create real change. My journey to becoming a counsellor has been anything but linear; it’s been woven together through creativity, lived experience, and a heartfelt desire to support others in finding their own strength and self-understanding.

I originally studied Art and Design, specialising in Textiles. I’ve always been attracted to texture, pattern, and connection, ideas that now serve as metaphors for therapy, where the different threads of our experiences are gently woven together to make sense of the whole.

Years later, after the birth of my child, I went through postnatal depression. Turning to support, I discovered Thought Field Therapy (TFT) and counselling, which truly transformed my life. The experience strengthened my respect for the healing power of being genuinely listened to, motivated me to train in Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) so I could provide that same support to others.

That training led me to further studies in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapeutic Counselling, and over the years I’ve had the privilege of supporting many people, some for just one session to work through a fear or phobia, and others over many years as they explore deeper emotional healing and personal growth. I have never lost the sense of honour and humility I feel when someone allows me to walk alongside them on their journey.

Outside of counselling, I trained as a powerlifter and once achieved a British record, an experience that taught me about resilience, discipline, and the importance of mind-body connection. Later, I became the Registered Manager of a care service supporting adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs. It was in that role that I first came across the term person-centred, not yet realising its roots in counselling or how deeply it would later shape both my practice and my understanding of myself.

After taking a career break and during the COVID pandemic isolation, I reflected on the work that truly resonated with me. I chose to retrain as a person-centred counsellor, which felt like coming home. During my training, I realised I am neurodivergent -both as a dyslexic (a fact I’ve known since I was 14) and in ways I hadn’t fully acknowledged. Discovering I have ADHD provided clarity and self-compassion, explaining my constant desire for change and creativity, often shown through my ever-changing hair colours -ranging from red and purple to pink, blue, and black at times. Additionally, understanding my autism highlighted my need for clear routines and structure.

This realisation deepened both my empathy and my purpose. It’s led me to specialise in supporting neurodivergent clients, those who may have spent a lifetime trying to fit in, mask, or feel “too much.” I aim to create a therapeutic space where people are truly seen and heard, just as they are.

Now, as a BACP-registered counsellor, I offer a warm, accepting space where we can explore your experiences together at your own pace. My work is rooted in person-centred values, empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard, and I often incorporate EFT when it feels appropriate to support emotional regulation and wellbeing.

For me, counselling isn’t about fixing or advising; it’s about connection, curiosity, and compassion. It’s an honour to walk alongside those who trust me with their stories, and to witness the quiet courage it takes to grow, heal, and rediscover a sense of self.
