My Story
Why Counselling Autistic, ADHD and Dyslexic Individuals?

Hello, and thank you for being here.

I’m Cerrie, a person-centred counsellor who believes deeply in the power of empathy, honesty, and genuine acceptance. My path into counselling hasn’t been a straight line; it’s been a weaving of creativity, lived experience, and a steady desire to meet people in their truth and support them in reconnecting with their own inner strength.

Creativity has always been part of my life. I studied Art and Design, specialising in Textiles, drawn to texture, pattern, and the way small details intertwine to create something whole. I see therapy in much the same way: a bringing together of the different threads of our experiences, identities, and emotions with gentleness and curiosity.

After the birth of my youngest child, I went through postnatal depression. Reaching out for support changed the course of my life. I discovered Thought Field Therapy (TFT) and counselling approaches that helped me feel understood, grounded, and no longer alone. This experience planted the early seeds of my desire to support others through Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and, eventually, through counselling.

From there, I trained further in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapeutic Counselling, supporting people with everything from single-session phobias to long-term emotional healing. No matter the length of our work, I have always felt a deep sense of honour when someone allows me to walk alongside them. That feeling has never changed.

Professionally, I worked in the care sector supporting adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs. This was the first time I heard the phrase person-centred, long before I knew its counselling roots. I learned how powerful it is when people are genuinely valued exactly as they are, and how much harm is done when systems fail to honour that. Even within the constraints of the sector, holding each person with dignity and respect always felt essential and natural to me.

After relocating and experiencing the COVID pandemic, I found myself reflecting on what truly resonated with me. I returned to counselling training, and it felt like coming home. It was during this time that I also learned more about myself. I discovered that I’m not just dyslexic (something I’ve known since I was 14), but also Autistic and ADHD or AuDHD. This realisation brought clarity, self-compassion, and a sense of alignment I hadn’t known before. My constant creativity, my ever-changing hair colours, my need for routine and fairness, suddenly, it all made sense.

Understanding my neurodivergence deepened my empathy and rooted my purpose. It led me to specialise in supporting neurodivergent clients, people who may have spent years masking, trying to fit in, or feeling “too much” in a world that rarely meets them where they are.

I aim to offer a space where you don’t have to explain or justify yourself. A space where your sensory needs, processing style, communication differences, passions, and quiet strengths are all welcomed. A space where you can be.

Because neurodiversity exists for a reason: every mind is unique, and your mind, your way of experiencing the world, is entirely valid. There has never been, and will never be, another you.

For me, counselling isn’t about advice or fixing. It’s about connection, curiosity, safety, and being truly seen. It’s an honour to journey alongside those who trust me with their stories, and to witness the courage it takes to heal, grow, and reclaim a sense of self.

If any part of my story resonates with you, I’m glad. You’re welcome here, exactly as you are.
